I hate being right all of the time

I posted a reply on someone's site a few days ago about Nanny State crap - the New York City trans fat ban, in particular. I said that some dim bulb in The People's Republic of California would soon propose a similar ban.

They didn't waste any time. Assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia (LOL, a Republican!?) has now put forth just such a bill.

I was going to write the bitch, but I'm not in her district, so I wrote the following message to my Assemblyman, Guy Houston.
I'm writing you concerning the bill proposed by Bonnie Garcia regarding the banning of trans fats.

Get the government out of my daily life. I'm an adult. I can make choices for me and my family. I don't need some Nanny State telling me what kind of food to put into my body.

It is because of Nanny Staters like Garcia that I am planning to leave this state when I retire. I'll be taking my money and spending it in a state that does not attempt to run every facet of my life. Look at the recent migration trends for this state, and you'll see I'm far from being alone.

You only need to look at San Francisco as a test case for what is going to happen to this entire state. You'll have noone left but those on government assistance.

Good luck running the state with that economic model.
I'm not hopeful...

Diversity

...where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character...

Interesting word, diversity is.

Most people used to think of it as almost a hodge-podge of similar items, each with some unique characteristic. A diverse sports card collection would have baseball, football, basketball, etc.

Now, of course, it means including different races or people with differing sexual preferences into your workplace, regardless of qualifications.

I got a flyer at my bank about this seminar: Wall Street Diversity. God help us all. I'm sure it will be filled with lots of very serious hand-wringers, all with deeply furrowed brows, consulting with each other about the best place in NYC to get trans-fat free meals.

This just killed me. Did you know who this class is targeting?
WTF? A Chief Diversity Officer? Holy Fucking Shit. You've got one employee (or more in the case of the Diversity Committee) that is actually dedicated to ruining your business?

In general, I think diversity is a horrible thing. I want all of my employees to be the very best in their profession. I couldn't give a rat's ass what color they are, or from which side of the plate they swing. The color of their skin or their sexual preference has never, and will never, come into the equation.

In fact, if I were black, Asian, Hispanic or gay, I'd fight like a crazed banshee to get "diversity" banished as quickly as possible. Why? If I were any good at what I did, I'd want everyone to believe that I got and retained the job based on my skills, not my skin color.

But of course, that's not how America works. Diversity proponents, just like with many union members, are generally average and below average workers that see this as the gravy train or an easy way into a job. Or they are folks that don't believe that people can make it on their own without Nanny getting involved in the process. Yeah, that always works out so well.

Performance? Not an issue. Just make sure you have the right sprinkling of non-whites and gays in your workforce.

Why is it only an issue when whites are in the majority? Why aren't these bastards picketing the NBA about the dearth of white guys in the league. Why, whites make up 70% or so of this country, yet there are only a handful of them in the NBA. RACISM!! Same with the NFL. Over half of the league is non-white. I don't give a shit about their qualifications, I want to see more white guys, and I want it now!

Now, why does it sound so stupid when it's about under- or unqualified white guys in the NBA, but it's so very, very serious when it's about under- or unqualified black guys that want to be on Wall Street?

Oh, and in case anyone cares, here are my last 5 hires: White Woman, Manager, $65K; Asian Woman, Sales, $55K plus car; White Male, Sales, $60K plus car; Black Female, Underwriter, $65K; Asian male, Sr. Manager, $90K plus car.

Muslim Workout?

Something stinks here, and it ain't gym socks...

I heard about this Muslim woman who is filing a lawsuit against a gym for discriminating against her because of her religion.
Fitness USA, a gym chain, is investigating an alleged civil rights violation involving a local Muslim woman who says her afternoon prayer was interrupted by a fellow patron, and that her complaint to management about the situation was rejected.
The woman says she was doing her praying - which she has done regularly over the past 6 or 7 years - in an out-of-the-way portion of the locker room.

Over the years, she said, her three o'clock prayers often occur while she was in the gym. On Nov. 29, she and a friend noticed the time and looked for a quiet place, out of the way, to pray.

The pair used a closet off of the locker room.

Sounds like she got shafted, at least by the account as presented in the article. But something just doesn't make sense here.
Sultan said that, like all pious Muslims, she prays five times daily. She also wears a veil and a long dress, in observance of her faith.
So, I looked up the definition of 'pious':
pi·ous [pahy-uhs] –adjective
1.having or showing a dutiful spirit of reverence for God or an earnest wish to fulfill religious obligations.
2.characterized by a hypocritical concern with virtue or religious devotion; sanctimonious.
3.practiced or used in the name of real or pretended religious motives, or for some ostensibly good object; falsely earnest or sincere: a pious deception.
4.of or pertaining to religious devotion; sacred rather than secular: pious literature.
5.having or showing appropriate respect or regard for parents or others.
Basically, it means it is someone that follows the "letter of the law" for their chosen religion, or someone who mocks religion. I'll give her the benefit of the doubt that it is the former definition. That would be Sharia Law in this case.

And that's where I have to start rubbing my head. See, if she is truely a pious Muslim, she would not be allowed - no, she would not choose - to enter a mixed-sex building without at least one male escort from her family. It would seem that a gym filled with men with bare chests, and women in shorts and sports bras would be unacceptable under any conditions. To willingly do so would be heresy.

You die for that in Islam.

So, my only conclusion could be she is lying about being a pious Muslim, because a pious Muslim would not be found in this gym. Because she cannot be a pious Muslim, she's must be lying about being offended by having her prayers interrupted. The only reasonable conculsion, then, is that she's just trying to raise some shit.

Grow a backbone, Fitness USA, or be prepared to be reamed at every turn. Oh, that goes for the rest of America, too.
